I don’t know about the rest of you, but I felt like the moment I got to Vegas on Tuesday afternoon until the final breakdown on Sunday morning, it was non stop excitement in one of the world’s most exciting towns!

This is the fourth DEMA show for Kapitol Reef, and what an incredible opportunity to visit with some of the world’s most experience divers and business owners. It seemed like sheer energy packed into every inch of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The Kapitol Reef booth was always buzzing with conversation about the world’s most innovative snorkel. It was great to see old friends, meet new people, and help people understand what Kapitol Reef has to offer to the dive community.

As we packed up our bags on Sunday morning, I could only imagine how great it will be to see you all next year in Florida!

I was walking around and I noticed a very cute booth babe standing at one of the booths on the end. I stopped by to see what they had and it was what I can only describe as the world’s biggest snorkel. The company Kapitol Reef Aquatics, makes the Kadence technology snorkel.
Designed by a doctor, I’m told that this snorkel is bone dry after a full immersion and will always give you a fresh breath; no rebreathing you exhalations on this puppy.

It work because it’s has an inner collapsible airway and a outer rigid airway with one way valves. Basically, one airway is for breathing in and one for breathing out. When not in use, the airway used for breathing a fresh breath of air is sealed and doesn’t allow either air or water in.

I’m told that this reduces exertion because you are always getting a fresh breath of air.

The unit is pretty large to accommodate the twin airway design. The reviews of this device by the major dive rags, Sport Diver and Scuba Diving, have rated this as an “Editor’s Choice”, with one calling this a snorkel, “a respirator device for snorkelers”. The sell for approx $89.

The Kapitol Reef snorkel will revolutionize the sport of snorkeling. It beautifully addresses numerous breathing problems that plague traditional snorkels. Who would have thought that exhaling against a small amount of pressure would make one feel more relaxed in the water? But it’s true. This thing really works! It comfortably reduces resting respiratory rate, spares breathing muscles from fatigue, and helps to prolong dive times. I noticed right away that my own ventilation is more efficient with the Kapitol Reef snorkel. It has definitely increased my breath hold time. The fact that it stays incredibly dry just makes it that much more fun to use. This snorkel will appeal to both first-time snorkelers and champion freedivers.

Dr. Mark Johnson has leveraged his own experiences with ventilator technology to design the first snorkel based on scientific analysis of snorkel performance and the human body. Kapitol Reef Aquatics also did a great job polishing up this beautiful design, practically a work of art.

Dear Kapitol Reef,

My wife and I have been very curious about your new snorkel ever since we saw your ad in a dive magazine some months ago. I called last week because I could not stand it any longer. it arrived last Friday and I could not contain myself. I put on my swimsuit, grabbed a pair of fins along with a conventional self draining snorkel and my new Kapitol Reef. I spent the first 5 minutes in the pool developing a baseline on how dry/wet the old snorkel was in a series of snorkeling and skin diving positions and maneuvers. Then I put the new Kapitol Reef snorkel through the same paces. Here is what I discovered:

The Kapitol Reef was drier in all swim and skin dive modes.

As stated in the manual, if I exhale first, my first inhalation will be dry, no matter how hard I exhaled.

Clearing the snorkel is a little different than my traditional “blast” clear technique. I found that if I started a gentle exhalation on ascent that it would clear the snorkel with little effort. The decrease in water pressure allows my exhaled bubble to expand and clear the snorkel easily. Although this displacement technique of clearing a snorkel is used by many skin divers, you still typically need to be cautious with that first breath. Not so with the Kapitol Reef!

My hat is off to you and your company for a true innovation in the diving industry.

We will be taking our new snorkel on a dive trip to Mexico next month. The only problem will be how often I will be allowed to use it. I know that we will be ordering one in her color when we return!

My 11-year-old son, after using the snorkel for the first five minutes, lifted his head out of the water and said, “Dad, this snorkel is awesome!” We all loved them. There is no comparison between the performance of your snorkel and a regular snorkel. I even went out where the surf was breaking over my head several times to see how the snorkel would perform and it worked great. I had no problem with water in the snorkel even under these conditions. You have really done a fantastic job with the snorkel.

Having received our Kapitol Reef snorkels two months ago, the Imperial Beach Lifeguard Service Dive/Rescue Team was very interested to know if the snorkels performed as well as expected. We are very impressed with every feature of the Kapitol Reef snorkel and the ability of the snorkel to stay so dry! As promised, if the user only exhales a small amount while ascending to the surface, each and every first breath will be dry. Secondly, while lying prone on the surface, breaths are fuller and deeper.

In the Ocean Rescue Service, top quality equipment is constantly pursued. The Kapitol Reef Snorkel has alleviated our need to continue looking for a high-quality, professional snorkel for the working ocean rescue diver. Divers in the ocean rescue field will perform in the harshest, most volatile conditions, continuously under time management issues and faced with having to perform at their peak physical abilities. The Kapitol Reef Snorkel is the perfect compliment to our demanding and stressful work situations, easing our breathing and letting us focus on the task at hand.

Thank you for an invaluable piece of equipment – whether making emergency surface dives, SCUBA recovery operations, or just catching lunch in the kelp – Kapitol Reef Snorkels are the best.

Sincerely,
Sgt. Richard Hidalgo
Dive Team Leader, Imperial Beach Lifeguard Service

Smart science makes it breathe easier. KEY FEATURES The Kapitol Reef is a dry snorkel that breathes more naturally to relax divers and promote better gas exchange in the lungs. It also separates exhaled air from inhaled air, so that snorkelers don’t re-breathe exhaled CO2. This amazing system uses a series of valves to help balance breathing resistance with the surrounding water pressure. The result is less fatigue for inhalation muscles, higher lung volumes and lower levels of anxiety. This Kadence Technology is so relaxing, it typically reduces a user’s breathing rate by 32 percent. MSRP $89
